Texas reports 10,000 new COVID-19 cases, 46 deaths
Dallas (AP) —Texas reported more than 10,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday and 46 deaths from the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
The number of Texas people hospitalized for COVID-19 increased from Sunday to Monday to 13,858. Coronavirus hospitalizations have maintained record highs, and intensive care units in some areas have reached or are nearing capacity, according to the Texas Department of Health.
The department reported 10,110 confirmed cases of the virus, and 695 possible cases on Monday.
Last week, more than 17% of coronavirus tests returned positive in Texas, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The state has recorded more than 2 million cases of the virus and more than 32,000 deaths.
The actual number of cases is believed to be much higher, as many have not been tested and some who have become ill have no symptoms.
According to health officials, more than 1 million Texas people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, and more than 166,000 have been fully vaccinated.
