COVID-19: New cases of 2.4K and above have been seen on Long Island, and the positive test rate is increasing.Latest data
According to data released by the New York State Department of Health on Monday, January 17, Long Island had more than 2,400 newly reported cases of COVID-19, with a slight increase in positive testing rates.
There were 1,362 new cases in Suffolk County and another 1,110 in Nassau, for a total of 2,472 cases.
The positive infection rates on Long Island over the last three days are:
- Friday, January 15: 8.06%
- Saturday, January 16: 7.81%
- Sunday, January 15: 7.84%
As of Monday, Long Island had a total of 1,649 hospitalizations, and Nassau and Suffolk still have about 29 percent of their beds available.
Currently, there are 672 COVID-19 patients being treated with 848 Long Island ICU units, and 24 percent of those beds are still available.
There were 23 new COVID-related deaths reported on Long Island, 12 in Suffolk County, 11 in Nassau County, and 153 throughout the state. During the pandemic, there were 33,052 COVID deaths throughout the state.
