London-Middlesex reports four more COVID-19 deaths, 68 new infections

In the London area, four more people died of COVID-19, including three long-term care residents.
The Middlesex London Health Unit said Tuesday that a man in his 60s and two women were involved in his recent death in a long-term care facility. One is in his 100s and the other is in his 60s. The fourth death was a man in his 70s who did not live in an auxiliary living facility.
16 people have died locally since Sunday.
The death toll in this area is currently 156.
On Tuesday, another 68 new COVID-19 infections were recorded by the health unit. This is an increase from 48 on Monday.
The total number of cases in the region since the outbreak of the pandemic has been 5,149, of which 3,529 have been resolved. Currently, there are 1,464 active COVID-19 cases in the area.
There are outbreaks in 15 local long-term care facilities and retirement homes. To date, there have been 673 cases and 81 deaths associated with the facility.
At the London Health Science Center, there are ongoing outbreaks in two units at Victoria Hospital and one unit at a university hospital. Less than 5 patients and 5 staff were tested positive in the units affected by Victoria Hospital. The outbreak at the university infected eight employees with the virus. There are no outbreak-related deaths in the current hospital. LHSC has a total of 25 COVID-19 inpatients, 9 of whom are receiving critical care.
Elgin and Oxford have recorded 31 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours. Southwestern Public Health, the health sector of the two counties, said the latest cases would bring the total number of cases to 2,099. Two more deaths were reported in the area, with up to 47 deaths. More infections have been identified between staff and residents of Maple Nursing Homes in Tillsonburg. According to the health unit, 83 residents and 52 staff are currently positive, with an increase of 2 residents and 1 staff from the previous day. The deaths of 17 people are associated with outbreaks at home.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 65 recovery cases in the two counties, for a total of 1,706 resolved cases. Currently, there are 346 active cases in the area.
Technical errors have dramatically reduced the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
Ontario recorded 1,913 infections on Tuesday, down from 2,578 on Monday.
However, the decrease in daily cases does not really reflect what is happening with the virus in the state.
“There is likely to be an underreporting of cases today (Tuesday) due to technical issues in Toronto’s public health,” tweeted Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott.
The regions with the highest number of new cases include 550 in Toronto, 346 in Peel and 235 in the York region.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Ontario is currently 242,277.
An additional 46 people died from the virus throughout the state. According to epidemiological reports, 20 of Tuesday’s deaths were among those living in long-term care facilities.
COVID-19 in Ontario currently kills 5,479 people.
The maximum recovery rate is 209,183.
Virus hospitalizations are on the rise again, with 1,626 hospitalized. Of them, record 400 is in the intensive care unit and 292 is in the ventilator.
Tests for COVID-19 are down and over 34,500 tests have been processed in the last 24 hours. The positive rate of those tested is 6.8%.
As of 8 pm on Monday, 224,134 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had reached the arms of the people of Ontario.
