Michigan Athletics at rest for 2 weeks after the occurrence of the COVID variant
The Michigan Athletics Department will be closed for two weeks after a case of the B.1.1.7 COVID-19 variant confirmed in the free press on Saturday night.
Shutdown affects all sports, including sports during the current season, including men’s and women’s basketball and ice hockey.
All teams in the school will be suspended due to the latest version of COVID. A student journalist at Michigan Daily first reported it.
The suspension will begin on Sunday, sources told Free Press. Sources were not allowed to discuss the issue with the media, so they spoke on condition of anonymity.
Currently, there are five cases identified in Washtenaw County with the highly contagious COVID variant B.1.1.7. The outbreak dates back to one female student athlete, sources said.
“Cancellation of the competition is not what we want to do, but there are many unclear points about this variant of COVID-19, so we can do it to minimize its reach to student athletes, coaches, staff, and student athletes. We have to do as much as we can, “other schools,” said Ward Manuel, athletic director in Michigan.
According to the Ministry of Health, new coronavirus variants are more susceptible to infection and can lead to more positive cases.
“We are watching this situation as closely as possible,” said Dr. Juan Luis Marquez, Medical Director of Washtenaw County Health Department. “And we ask everyone to continue doing everything they can to prevent infection — avoid masks, distances, crowds and gatherings, clean hands frequently, and be careful with quarantine or quarantine guidance. Please follow. “
The county urges Meyer from 9 am to 10 am last Sunday and those who visited Briarwood Mall from 1 pm to 2 pm to be tested for the virus immediately.
Susan Ringler Serniglia, a spokeswoman for Washtenaw County Health Department, said the state’s patient Zero had a negative coronavirus test two days before traveling from the United Kingdom to the United States on January 3.
The woman also tested negative for the virus on January 4th and 6th. She tested positive for the coronavirus on January 8 and began quarantine that day.
Most of the seven additional people who have been infected with the virus since close contact with women live in connected homes and are also quarantined, according to Ringler Serniglia.
The B.1.1.7 variant is non-fatal and cannot cause more serious illness than other variants of coronavirus. However, it is 1.5 times more contagious, which means it spreads about 50% faster than other strains of the virus circulating in Michigan.
Late Friday night, the Athletics Department reported that there were 22 COVID-positive cases during the week January 16-January 22.
This is not the first time UM has had a problem with COVID. The soccer team shut down the season early after the COVID outbreak. The shutdown included the cancellation of a rival game with Ohio.
The student winter semester began on Monday, but most students are not on campus. The university announced in November that it would cancel all winter semester housing contracts and allow only some students on campus.
Those returning to campus will face crackdowns from the university on public health-related behavior, the school said then.
“Students returning to campus in the winter will encounter a rigorous and intolerant approach to implementing COVID-19-related policies,” the university said in a statement. “Depending on the breach, penalties include automatic probation, termination of college housing contracts, and removal of college approval of student organizations hosting or participating in social gatherings.”
The university said face-to-face lessons are limited to those that are taught face-to-face most effectively or are required to obtain a license.
The free COVID-19 test is the Ann Arbor 601W from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sundays. Available at Pioneer High School in Stadium Boulevard. Pre-registration is possible, but not required. Details: https: //www.washtenaw.org/3158/Testing.

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence.
