British virus variants found in Arizona
Phoenix (AP) — The first new coronavirus variant identified in the UK was found in Arizona, health officials said Friday.
The State Department reported that UK stocks were confirmed by three COVID-19 tests. The agency works with other public health agencies, including the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to monitor the situation.
Details of the infected people, such as whether they have recently traveled, have not been disclosed.
The virus is constantly mutating, and coronavirus variants are endemic around the world. However, scientists are primarily interested in three emergences that researchers believe can spread more easily. This variant has already been identified in South Africa and Brazil.
