Deschutes County suspends appointments for COVID-19 vaccination for the elderly
Movements occur as the state shifts doses to healthcare workers in the Portland area
Bend, Oregon (KTVZ)-The Oregon Department of Health will not send the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to Deschutes County next week. This is because some intended shipments have been moved to the Portland region, which has thousands of Phase 1a healthcare workers. I’m still waiting for vaccination.
As a result, first-dose vaccine reservations will be fully booked at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center, authorities will announce late Friday, and registration will be closed until the state allocates additional first doses to Deschutes County.
Individuals who are eligible for a second dose of the vaccine will be able to receive the injections on time. An appointment is scheduled when an individual receives the first vaccination, and OHA has promised a second vaccination.
“Late week, we’ll learn about vaccine allocation for the next week from the Oregon Department of Health,” said Dr. George Conway, director of Deschutes County Health Services. “Next week we will know if we can expect more vaccines next week and keep our community up to date.”
Deschutes County Health Services and St. Charles Health System will resume scheduling vaccination appointments for eligible individuals when they receive additional initial vaccinations.
