COVID-19 Vaccine: Texas Children’s Hospital is the top hospital in the United States for vaccination of young patients.
Texas is currently in Phase 1B and includes people aged 65 or 16 and older who are in good health at an increased risk of contracting COVID-19.
Texas Children’s Hospital sees more COVID-19 patients than any other healthcare system in the country.
“We’ve taken care of many of these patients in hospitals throughout the pandemic,” says Dr. James Versalovich, Texas Children’s Chief Pediatrician.
Doctors at Texas Children’s have diagnosed more than 10,000 patients with the virus.
“Many of these children have underlying medical conditions such as chronic kidney disease, heart disease, cancer and obesity,” said Versalovich.
The hospital began vaccination of staff in December and started administration to patients last month.
To date, more than 5,500 patients have been vaccinated, and the number is increasing day by day.
“We know that older people and older people are getting a lot of attention, and other healthcare systems are well-positioned for that. Texas Children are in desperate need of vaccines. We serve the voices of adolescents and young adults, “says Versalovic.
According to Texas Children’s, more than 85,000 patients are currently eligible for vaccination within the system.
They also say they are looking at vaccine trials in patients aged 12 to 15 years. They say this is currently in Phase 1.
