Napa County reports positive trends in COVID-19 cases | Local News

The number of new COVID-19 cases has plummeted, with only eight cases reported on Friday, the lowest number per day since mid-October.

There are 185 cases reported during the week, the lowest total week since November. In January, there were weeks when the number of cases surged above 600.

A county spokeswoman, Janet Upton, said on Friday that the trend was optimistic, due to the recent decline in the number of people visiting local sites for COVID testing.

The county has recorded 8,726 confirmed COVID-19 cases since March, and the total can be much higher, as many have not been tested to show mild symptoms.

All cases, including the recent surge after vacation, help build natural community immunity, Apton said. She said the ban on going out in the state’s territories helped quell the case, even if it was difficult.

Another factor in the decline in cases: The county has given more than 35,000 vaccines to people living and working in the county, which she said contributed to this trend.

Upton said people who recovered from cases of COVID-19 need to be vaccinated because their immunity may be temporary.

Four people died this week and 62 people died throughout the county. This week’s total is half the death toll in the weeks of January.
