ICMR does not recommend BCG vaccine to definitive results, scientists say

Dr. Raman R Gangakhedkar, Chief Scientist at ICMR, said the Indian Medical Research Council will not recommend the BCG vaccine to healthcare workers until the organization has a definitive result.
In response to questions about fighting COVID-19 using the BCG vaccine during daily media briefings, GCG said: “The ICMR will start its research next week. We don’t recommend it until there are definitive results. It’s a BCG vaccine for healthcare professionals as well.”
Bacillus Calmette Guerlain (BCG) is a vaccine mainly used against tuberculosis. In countries where tuberculosis or leprosy are common, a single dose is recommended for a healthy baby as close as possible to birth.
“We don’t have enough evidence to take an official position on the BCG vaccine for COVID-19. We can’t stop tuberculosis, but we can only protect from its severity. It’s an immunomodulator that’s effective for 15 years,” he says. Added. .
