The Nunavut Territory community in Arviat has declared a state of emergency over an increase in the number of cases of COVID-19.
There are 27 active cases in a community of about 2,800 people.
Arviat was previously the center of the largest COVID-19 outbreak in Nunavut, with a total of 307 cases.
Starting today, the community will be subject to a curfew from 10 pm to 6 am, and four more Articles of Incorporation officers will be hired for enforcement.
Joe Savikataaq Jr., Mayor of Arviat, said anyone who broke the curfew could be fined.
The only active community in Nunavut today has been tightly closed since early November, with travel restrictions and all schools and non-essential businesses closed.
The Arviat Council will decide whether to update the state of emergency on March 1.
