Here is a list of California nursing homes with COVID-19 among residents and employees-more than half of them are in Los Angeles County
For the first time California Public Health Department Announces Facility Name Affected person. The data show one or more COVID-19 positive cases reported to residents or staff members at 258 locations throughout the state.
Officials said the list is a snapshot representing 86% of 1,224 skilled nursing homes in the state that reported data within the last 24 hours.
More than half of the facilities, 148, are in Los Angeles County. One of the worst outbreaks was at the Brier Oak on Sunset facility, where 80 inhabitants and 62 staff were reported to be coronavirus-positive.
Country Villas South Convercent Center in Palms has 58 inhabitants and 15 staff responded positively.
The new data elicited a swift response from union leaders, which union leaders called “a call to action for all of us.”
“This deadly pandemic targets our most vulnerable elders. Low-paid workers, most often women, are the people responsible for caring for them, without the most basic protection. We’re stepping into the infected area, “said a statement from Service Employees International, April April Lett, President Union Local 2015.
Velett also called for “immediate testing” of all of these facilities and daily reports of infection rates from all skilled nursing homes in California.
Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Public Health Department, reported more than 20 cases on Friday in 20 nursing homes or nursing homes in the county.
