Eight new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Green County on Friday.

Eight new cases bring the number of people infected with the virus locally to 7,317 over the past year, according to a Friday update of COVID-19 data from the Tennessee Department of Health. Of these cases, 7,107 are currently inactive.

According to state data, 65 people in Green County have cases of active virus.

The trend of fewer new cases experienced in Greene County over the past few weeks has also been seen in northeastern Tennessee. On Friday, 135 new virus cases were reported in 10 counties, with less than 9 new cases in 6 counties. There are 1,028 active cases in this area.

Data from the Ministry of Health reported 1,445 new cases and 33 new deaths recorded on Friday across the state. Since March last year, 780,894 people have been infected with COVID-19 and 11,535 have died of the disease.

No new deaths or hospitalizations were reported in Green County on Friday, according to the Ministry of Health. Since March last year, 145 people have died locally from the virus and 170 have been hospitalized.

Over the past year, 2,675 people have been treated for the virus by local VA medical centers, of which 2,462 are considered convalescent cases. Last year, 158 people treated by the Department of Veterans Affairs died of the virus.

According to the Ballad Health COVID-19 scorecard released on Friday, the positive rate for the region over the past seven days was 10.5%, a slight increase from the middle of the week. The percentage of all people who have been tested for the virus who are positive is reflected in the positive rate.

The positive rate for the last 7 days in Green County was 3.9%. This is less than 5%, which health professionals have shown to limit the spread of the virus to the community.

According to state data, 475 people in Green County received their first vaccination on Friday. Since late December, 18,788 people have been vaccinated at least once in Green County, 16% of the county’s population, and 11% have received both vaccinations or a single dose of Johnson & Johnson.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, 9,709 veterans at the James H. Killen VA Medical Center have been vaccinated at least for the first time by Friday.

On Monday, vaccine eligibility will be held in Phase Ic, Tennessee. The risk group includes adults with underlying illnesses at high risk of serious viral complications and caregivers of children with serious health problems.

Vaccinations also apply to individuals over the age of 65, hospital front-line healthcare professionals, office or other environmental healthcare staff, and kindergarten-to-high school education and childcare providers. According to health experts, most people infected with COVID-19 have mild or moderate illness. However, for the elderly and those with underlying illnesses, it can cause serious illness and can be fatal.

The COVID-19 test is conducted by the Green County Health Department from 8:30 am to 10:30 am Monday to Friday at the West Church Street office. No reservation required.
