Public Health Sudbury reported 30 new COVID-19 cases on March 27
The Sudbury Health Department reported 30 new cases of COVID-19 on March 27. Public health also said that 343 active cases are currently being monitored. This is the highest number of local active cases ever.
In addition, since the health department started tracking COVID-19 about a year ago, a total of 1,362 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed locally.
PHSD also said that 1,019 of these cases were resolved, an increase of 12 from yesterday.

The total number of elderly people aged 60 to 79 years is 167 (up 3 cases), and the number of elderly people aged 80 and over is currently 72 (up 1 case), which is the lowest category.
The above numbers may not exactly match the number of cases per day, as PHSD does not always report on the day the change occurs.
As for testing, 210,876 tests were run in the PHSD region as of today and 1,228 tests were run on Friday.
In terms of vaccination, as of 4:00 pm on March 26, 24,228 people were first vaccinated and 2,235 were fully vaccinated.
Variants of concern
PHSD also reports that there are still five “confirmed” variants of the COVID-19 virus, with no increase.
However, there are 377 cases “screened positive” for the variants of concern, an increase of 9 from the number reported on Friday.
PHSD said it would take additional time to sequence the virus in the positive sample and confirm that it was the COVID-19 mutant of concern.
At Sudbury Health Science North, as of March 26 (latest data provided), there are 22 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the hospital. According to the HSN website, This included 11 COVID patients in the intensive care unit (ICU).
