Covid-19: Bhutan vaccinates more than 60% of people at record speed and leaves Israel

The small Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan set a record when all countries in the world were competing with time to vaccinate most of their population with the Covid-19 vaccine. The country may not be well known as an economic powerhouse, but when it comes to vaccination, more than 60 percent of Bhutan’s population receives the first jab.

Surprisingly, the Himalayan Kingdom launched a double vaccination drive just 11 days ago. We use the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine donated by India.

By Wednesday, 470,000 of the 770,000 (61.03%) had been given the first shot.

Ninda Hoax, a 30-year-old woman born in the year of the Buddhist astrology monkey, was first shot in the country on March 27. She is the capital, Thimphu.

Bhutan was vaccinated 150,000 times in January with a vaccine manufactured by the Indian Serum Institute of India. Authorities waited for another 400,000 shots provided last month to launch the campaign at once.
