Massachusetts surpasses 50,000 COVID-19 cases and death toll skyrockets after’error reporting ‘

(New York) -Cases and deaths identified under the new Massachusetts coronavirus have seen a surprising increase after a “reporting error”.
According to the State Department of Health, the number of people infected in Bay increased from 46,023 on Thursday to 50,969 by the end of Friday. Mortality increased from 2,360 to 2,556.
Over the past 24 hours, state officials said there were 2,877 new positive new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Massachusetts and 10,897 new tests were completed.
However, the state also reports 4,946 new cases and 20,137 newly completed tests since Thursday’s previous report. These numbers include a backlog of approximately 10,000 tests performed since April 13th.

Of the deaths reported in the state, 1,429 (a staggering 55.9%) were reported in long-term care homes, with a sharp increase in 113 deaths from what was reported on Thursday.
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker talked about his daily briefing increase on Friday.
“The point is, [testing] “We expect that over time, we will see higher peaks than we’ve seen before,” he said, “it’s not all the same every day.”
Baker also said that, despite the increase, the number of positive tests was, in proportion, actually less than the number previously seen in the past few days, compared to the total number of tests.
