Another death of Covid-19 and 89 new cases reported
Another Covid-19 died in the north, bringing the total number of deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic to 2,129.
An additional 89 new cases have been identified, increasing the total number of positive cases to date to 118,267.
Health Minister Robin Swan of Stormont declared “another landmark” in the fight against the coronavirus over the weekend, as the vaccine given in the area exceeded one million doses.
As of Sunday, more than 820,000 people were given the first jab and more than 194,600 received the second dose, bringing the total number of jabs to 1,014,642.
The vaccine is managed by a local vaccination center, a general practitioner, and about 350 local pharmacists, and is currently available to anyone over the age of 40.
Swan said the reopening of school on Monday would be “another step towards the normality we all want to see.”
“Many sacrifices have been made to get us here. I would like to congratulate the Northern Irish people for taking us here,” he said. ..
But he warned, “We need to pay attention to our approach so as not to undo the hard-earned progress we have made.”
“Covid-19 is still in our community, so it’s still important for us all to follow public health advice,” he warned.
“Of course, children and adolescents are looking forward to seeing their friends and classmates again, but it is important to adhere to the safety measures in place.”
North Education Minister Peter Weir said returning to school for all students is an “important milestone” and many children will return to the classroom for the first time in months.
“For all of us, our priority must be to keep the school safe and to ensure that it stays open,” he said.
“For staff and students, this means following social distance guidance, performing hand hygiene, and wearing facial coverings as needed.
“Parents and guardians can play their part by wearing masks when loading and unloading children and not gathering around school gates.”
Patricia Donnelly, head of the Northern Ireland vaccination program, said over the weekend that she was determined to “maintain momentum” in the deployment, but the progress noted depended on the availability of vaccine supplies. ..
