154 new coronavirus cases at RivCo; 118 deaths
Riverside County, California—Health officials in Riverside County reported 154 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus and one additional virus-related death on Sunday.
The county has a total of 3,563 cases and 118 deaths.
Meanwhile, 1,207 recalls are documented, up 74 from Saturday’s figures.
Overall this weekend, recovery doubled the number of newly confirmed cases, slightly exceeding 250-248.
The number of inmates in the affected county prisons remained unchanged from 135 on Friday, with 94 recovered.
However, Riverside County Sheriff announced that prisoners who tested positive for coronavirus died “on what appear to be COVID-19-related complications” on Sunday.
Updated coronavirus figures come as the first heat wave of the year continues to squeeze the inland empire, causing concern for people trapped indoors without air conditioning.
County health officials relaxed pool usage guidelines on Friday for people seeking relief, allowing swimmers to enjoy private pools of motels, apartments, county clubs, and more.
However, the new rules allow only one swimmer to enter the pool at a time. Gathering in the pool area remains banned unless parents are watching children in the pool, officials said.
Authorities also urged older people to stay home with the air conditioners on, adding that the riverside county office for older people is ready to help them pay their utility bills.
Elderly people who lack air conditioning at home can also call 211 to see if other assistance is available, health officials said.
Temperatures in Riverside County on Sunday ranged from the high 80s west of the mountains to the low three digits of the Coachella Valley.
