Orange County officials aim to combat diminished interest in the COVID-19 vaccine – WFTV
Orange County, Florida — Remember April 5th.
That is the day that all Florida residents over the age of 16 were eligible for vaccination.

This was a 25% reduction, officials noted.
“Currently, the pace and rate of vaccination may be slowing,” said Jerry Demings, Mayor of Orange County.

Officials saw it not only in numbers, but also in booking reservations: Demings said they had about 11,000 bookings left.
“You can make a lot of reservations this week at the Orange County Convention Center’s vaccination site,” he said.
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings admits that it’s hard to understand why this is happening.
“I don’t know what caused the obvious slowdown,” he said. “We need to increase demand.”
Currently, 38% of Floridians are vaccinated at least once and 24% are fully vaccinated. To stop the spread of COVID-19, the state needs to be immune to about 80% of its more than 1 million inhabitants.
“One of the strategies we use is to make people more vulnerable to vaccination, which is why we use mobile sites,” Demings said.

Authorities want to go directly to the neighborhoods and communities that provide the vaccine and help them get their weapons.
With the vaccine available to all adults in Florida for more than two weeks, authorities believe they are beginning to hit the waiting group.
“Our goal is simple. We want to advocate people to get vaccinated,” Demings said.
It is expected that more vaccines will be available this week than last week.
In Orange County, 30% of the population is fully vaccinated. Demings said he wanted to make it 50% before easing Maskman Date.
