COVID-19 vaccine will be available to doctors soon | Continuous coverage
Governor Tom Wolf said Wednesday that he would go to the clinic as another way to convince the public that the drug is safe as the state’s COVID-19 vaccine continues to roll out.
The state is also planning to make the vaccine available at more local pharmacies to make it easier for people to find, Wolff said Wednesday at a rural clinic in Bradford County.
New COVID-19 cases continue to grow while the state is experiencing vaccination hesitation issues, Wolff said in a live press conference.
As of Wednesday, 26.5% of adults in Pennsylvania were fully vaccinated, he said. Wolff added that the number must be between 65% and 70% to achieve herd immunity.
“Vaccines are a game changer for Pennsylvania,” Wolf said.
The Allegheny County Health Department reported some progress on Wednesday while the daily number of cases declined slightly, said its director, Dr. Debra Bogen.
She said vaccination efforts in Allegheny are proceeding at a better rate than the state. She said that 85% of the county over the age of 65 had at least one vaccination.
The State Department of Health announced 4,602 new cases of the virus on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative total since March 2020 to 1,118,470.
In the state, 60 new virus deaths were seen, including one in Washington County and three in Fayette County.
Washington County reported 72 new cases of the virus, for a total of 16,490. Greene has confirmed that five new cases have been added to a total of 3,099. Fayette reported a total of 12,124 new cases of 49 cases.
