Headache, sore throat, new COVID-19 symptoms – CBS Philadelphia
Philadelphia (CBS) —Adds headache and sore throat to an expanding list of possible COVID-19 symptoms. This means that more people may be infected and subject to testing.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has expanded the list of possible coronavirus symptoms. Officials say they are learning that the virus is unpredictable and that the list of symptoms and strange side effects is increasing.
“Literally every day we learn more and learn what our bodies can do,” said Dr. David Agus.
New symptoms include chills, repeated chills, muscle aches, headaches, sore throat, and loss of taste and smell.
Initial symptoms were fever, cough, shortness of breath, and dyspnea.
“I think we’ll expand the criteria of what constitutes a symptom to some extent. We don’t want to test everyone with a headache,” said Dr. Thomas Farley of the Philadelphia Health Commission.
An expanded list of symptoms may allow more people to qualify for testing, but limited supply is still a problem, according to Farley.
“I don’t think it makes a big difference. The biggest difference in the number of people we test is the number of swabs we have and the tests our lab can perform. Is the number of people, ”Farley said.
Some positive cases have extensive blood clots.
Most of the severe cases of COVID-19 have lung damage, but doctors are now looking at blood clots in places such as the brain and kidneys.
