World Immunization Week, School Vaccination Reminders
The Florida Department of Health (DOH Leon) in Leon County recognizes April 24-May 1 as World Immunization Week and requires children to enter kindergarten or 7th grade in the 2021-202 grades. It reminds parents that it’s not too early to get vaccinated. For admission or attendance at school.
DOH Leon is committed to increasing childhood immunization rates in our community and helping potentially lagging families get their vaccines back on track.
“The world is focusing on new vaccines that are very important to protect against COVID-19, but we need to make sure we don’t miss regular vaccinations,” said Claudia Blackburn, DOH Leon Health Officer. Stated.
“Many children in our community have not been vaccinated during the pandemic and are at risk of serious illnesses such as measles and mumps.”
Before enrolling in or attending kindergarten, each child must submit a Florida vaccination certificate (DH 680 form) and document the next vaccination.
- Diphtheria-tetanus-4 or 5 doses of whooping cough (DTaP) vaccine *;
- Hepatitis B (Hep B) vaccine 3 times, polio (IPV) vaccine 3, 4 or 5 times *.
- Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine twice and varicella vaccine twice.
In addition to meeting all other vaccination requirements, children enrolled in, attending school, or transferring to 7th grade in Florida must complete the Tdap (tetanus-diphtheria-cell-free pertussis) vaccine.
You must obtain the latest Florida Vaccination Certificate (DH 680 form), including Tdap, and submit it to your child’s school. Other vaccinations, including the MenACWY vaccine and the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, are also given regularly to children aged 11-12 years before entering grade 7.
Parents are advised to contact their child’s family doctor to schedule a vaccination appointment. The Leon County Health Department offers regular childhood vaccinations by appointment.
