COVID-19-positive Arizona legislators vaccinated
Phoenix (AP) — A fully vaccinated Arizona legislator confirmed a positive COVID-19 test.
Democrat Alma Hernandez of the Tucson Democratic Party announced late Wednesday that she had several symptoms and was quarantined at her home in Phoenix for a week.
Hernandez said she lost her sense of taste and smell, had severe headaches, and had the typical mild symptoms of the coronavirus. Her brother, Democratic Rep. Daniel Hernandez, who tested negative for the virus, said she would be quarantined for a few days before undergoing another test.
Hernandez is at least the seventh member of the Arizona State Assembly to confirm that she has been infected with the virus. Republican Senator David Gowan was infected with the virus in early March.
Alma Hernandez says she was completely vaccinated 11 weeks ago, but that vaccination does not prevent the infection. She says she continues to take precautions such as wearing masks, washing hands, and keeping social distances, encouraging everyone to do so until the pandemic is over.
At least 435 state legislators across the country tested positive for the disease and seven died, according to the Associated Press.
