ADPH encourages people to get the COVID vaccine
Dothan, Alabama (WTVY)-COVID-19 numbers continue to look good across Alabama, but the number of vaccinated people is lower than health professionals want.
State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris provided updates on Friday about where Alabama stands in the fight against the virus.
The state has received more than 2.5 million COVID-19 vaccines, but health officials say it’s still not enough to reach herd immunity.
Dr. Harris said many people may be addressing barriers such as transport to vaccine clinics and vaccine hesitation. He said the state is continuing its educational efforts in the hope that more people will be comfortable getting vaccinated. People make door-to-door canvassing with pamphlets and potentially go to 21,000 households. With ongoing TV, radio and billboard campaigns, the state is seeking participation from all local doctors.
ADPH has asked all providers to contact the patient directly.

The Alabama Vaccine Distribution Dashboard shows that 1.4 million people have been vaccinated at least once and 1.5 million have completed the vaccine series.
