In late April, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced a “normally MI vaccine” plan that would link the future of COVID-19 restrictions to the proportion of residents who received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
As of Monday, 55% of state residents over the age of 16 have been vaccinated at least once, and 42.7% have been fully vaccinated. Starting May 24, the first phase of Whitmer’s plan, which includes four steps to gradually lift the restrictions, will begin. Two weeks after Step, 5.7 million residents, or 70% of the adult population received the first dose, the state will cancel orders for rallies and face masks, she said.
“Although the number of cases is high every day, the positive rate of the test is not yet what we want, but we are heading in the right direction,” Whitmer said.
Michigan also called on all primary care physicians to register as vaccine providers in order to spread vaccination throughout the state, as children aged 12 to 15 years were eligible for the Pfizer vaccine on Wednesday.

Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said Wednesday as a mother of two children in that age group, she was thrilled and that authorization was an important milestone for children in Michigan.
“Children are not affected by COVID-19,” she said. “There were many outbreaks in schools, school sports, and more than 115 children in Michigan, and we had a very serious inflammatory syndrome from COVID-19 called MIS-C. Unfortunately. Many of these children ended up in the intensive care room, and some died. “
The state ranks eighth in the country in terms of the number of fully vaccinated people. However, according to the Michigan Health Hospital Association, the number of vaccinations given in Michigan last week has dropped significantly, with supply exceeding demand for vaccines.
“The MIVaccto Normal Challenge outlines the steps you can take to get out of this pandemic when you reach your vaccination goals together,” Whitmer said. “While immunizing 70% of Missiganders over the age of 16, we can take steps to gradually return to normal while keeping people safe.
“If you haven’t done so already, we encourage you to face the challenge and become part of the solution so that we can continue to recover and have the summer we all crave. ”
In Detroit, the city’s COVID-19 dashboard shows that immunization rates are delayed as about 33% of residents receive a single vaccination. This is compared to 58% outside Wayne County, 51% in Macomb County, and 62% in Oakland and Washtenau counties.
To enhance immunization, Detroit offers “good neighbor” incentives and walk-up immunization clinics at the TCF Center, Farewell Recreation Center, Northwest Activity Center, and Samaritan Center. No reservation required.
The virus is blamed on more than 582,000 deaths and 32.7 million confirmed infectious diseases in the United States.
