Argoma Public Health Confirms District’s 5th COVID-19 Death
Sudbury-Public health officials confirmed the fifth COVID-related death in the Algoma district on the 66th Sunday in northeastern Ontario since the pandemic began.
“It’s very sad to report today the fifth death in the region related to COVID-19,” the Argoma Public Health Service (APH) said in a news release. “No more information is shared due to respect for the family.”
No details are provided about the resident’s birthplace, age, or how they were exposed to the disease.
“This tragic loss highlights the seriousness of the virus,” said the Health Organization. “APH commends all those who have worked to prevent COVID-19 from spreading to our community and those who are currently working tirelessly to vaccinate our community members. Go home as much as possible and avoid close contact with others. “
Currently, there are 36 active COVID-19 cases in the Algoma district. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the district has confirmed a total of 386 infections among residents, 350 of which have been resolved and 5 of whom have died. The first COVID-related deaths in the Algoma district occurred on January 18, and the latest deaths occurred on March 1.
Argoma Public Health received 52,389 COVID-19 vaccines as of Friday. More than 42,000 people receive at least one dose, which is equivalent to 43.5% of eligible Argoma residents over the age of 16 and 36.7% of all residents, and 5,168 receive both doses.
