Prisoner of Sterling Prison died in hospital of COVID-19 symptoms
Sterling, Colorado (KDVR) -The Colorado Corrections Office announced Friday night that prisoners at the Sterling Correctional Facility had died in hospital due to COVID-19 symptoms.
According to the DOC, the 86-year-old prisoner was taken to hospital on 27 April for symptoms of coronavirus.
“The prisoner lived to the east of the () Sterling Correctional Facility. The unit he lived in was segregated and the prisoner will continue to be monitored,” the DOC said in a statement.
The prisoner’s name has not been published. His formal cause of death is determined by the coroner’s office.
Sterling is the state’s largest source of COVID-19. As of Friday, 241 prisoners and 11 staff had confirmed cases of the disease. According to state health officials.
The DOC has stated that since April 14, prisoners have been isolated in their cells, except for taking a shower and using the bathroom. They delivered food and medicine to their unit.
“The facility continues to undergo extensive cleaning many times a day, and all staff and detainees must wear face covers at all times within the facility. All detainees east of the facility Are performing temperature checks twice a day as an additional screening tool, “said DOC.
