A Stanford University man received the first double lung transplant in Kentucky after COVID-19
Lexington, Kentucky (WKYT)-A man in Lincoln County had to undergo a double lung transplant after being infected with COVID-19.
Dave Hoover was infected with COVID-19 in late January and spent three months at McDowell Hospital before being transferred to a UK hospital.
Doctors say the illness destroyed his lungs. He was ventilated but began to have complications. The doctor had to place a catheter around his neck to provide oxygen.
Dave was on the transplant list and now waits a month for double lungs. He says he feels good now and is happy to be with his family.
“In my eyes, this is a divinely-given miracle that God has given me a second chance in life,” Dave said. “I am very happy to be here yet. I have to give a lot of credit to the UK medical staff.”
If your doctor tells you it’s safe, Dave will be vaccinated.
Doctors emphasize the importance of vaccination. They say that more than 90% of people admitted to a UK hospital for COVID-19 are not vaccinated.
