Kalamazoo County monitors mosquitoes and mites this summer
Kalamazoo, Michigan — Environmental health staff from the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department will install several mosquito traps throughout the county to catch and identify mosquitoes that may transmit the disease until September.
Southern Michigan is in a pattern of Aedes albopictus carrying the ZIKA virus, according to a news release on Thursday.
Health officials do not currently believe that Kalamazoo County is mosquito-bearing, but are working closely with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on surveillance.
Environmental health staff will also monitor mosquitoes known to transmit Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).
The findings report will be shared with the community.
