A new study tested olaparib in 1,836 women and men with early-stage disease who received drugs or placebo pills for one year after surgery and chemotherapy. Approximately 82% of the patients who participated in the study had triple-negative breast cancer.
The independent monitor recommended releasing the results after confirming the obvious benefits of Lynparza. Three years later, 86% of patients who took it survived without recurrence of the cancer, compared to 77% of the placebo group.
The results suggest that more patients should undergo BRCA mutation testing of tumors to guide treatment decisions, said Dr. Lori Pierce, chairman of ASCO, a cancer radiation expert at the University of Michigan. Said.
