The estimated risk is 11 per million doses, similar to the proportion of hepatitis B, influenza, and MMR vaccines, with 10 to 30 cases of ITP per million doses.
Those at highest risk tended to have a median age of 69 and had at least one chronic health problem such as heart disease, diabetes, or chronic kidney disease.
Researchers have found that two weeks after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, ITP may have increased slightly, increasing the risk of arterial coagulation and bleeding events.
