Atlanta — Doctors predict that this year’s flu season is likely to be very active.
Last year was one of the quietest flu seasons to date. Only one child died from it in the United States.
Channel 2 Carols Barge Metro Atlanta told a local doctor what to expect this fall.
As we return to a more normal life, influenza cases are expected to increase and colds are already increasing.
Trena Myers of Barrow County told Svaj that she had been vaccinated against the flu last year.
“I definitely think getting it not only protects you, but you are helping others in the community,” Myers said.
Dr. Barbara Joy Jones said there have been significantly fewer cases of influenza throughout Metro Atlanta this past season.

“Usually during the flu season, many people come up with upper respiratory tract infections that test for flu and streptococci,” says Joy Jones.
Joy Jones said he had only one flu patient throughout the season. She thinks the next flu season will be very violent.
She said social distance, hand washing and masks, in addition to those vaccinated last year, helped reduce cases.
“You know you’re walking a lot of droplets from all people. At least to get those big droplets, the mask was really good at preventing it,” Joy said.・ Jones said.
She told Svaj that it’s not surprising that some people have had a cold this summer, as people’s behavior has returned to pre-pandemic norms in many ways. “My message is that in September, when the flu vaccine is available, it’s on the rise, so everyone should get it,” said Joy Jones.
Doctors also predict that RSV, a respiratory disorder in children, may also rise, especially when they return to school.
