Family Worries About 100 Cases of COVID-19 Reported at Vallejo Nursing Facility
Valeggio, Calif. (KTXL) — Nearly 100 cases of COVID-19 related to nursing homes in Valeo, include both staff and residents.
“I’m nervous. I don’t get many phone answers, so I have to fix bugs many times to get the information,” says Angela Reece Freeman.
On Monday night, as well as every other biweekly week, Reese Freeman kept his father’s health at the forefront of his mind.
Artis Reece lives in the Windsor Vallejo Care Center, and as of Monday 99 patients and staff tested positive for the new coronavirus. On Friday, the facility reported more than 30 COVID-19 cases.
So far, a 77-year-old man has not tested positive.
“He said he was taken away from everyone and was isolated,” his daughter told FOX40. “When I asked him if he had any symptoms, he said no.”
Another resident, a family of 64-year-old Joseph Quirarte, said their father had tested positive for COVID-19 at the facility.
“We’re a bit worried because COVID is in his system and I don’t know how his body reacts to the virus,” says Quiarte’s daughter Maria. Told KTVU.
While Reese told his daughter that Windsor’s former roommate had died at COVID-19, health officials in Solano County said it was something they couldn’t speak to.
“At this time, we cannot confirm or deny deaths at this facility,” said Jayleen Richards, public health manager at Solano County Health and Social Services.
The facility told FOX40 in a statement that there were 23 positive cases from Windsor staff.
For some time, we’ve screened employees at the beginning of each shift for symptoms of COVID-19 infection, including daily temperature checks and a CDC-compliant screening questionnaire. Employees who show signs of illness are required to leave immediately and be isolated at home.
