Sugar Hill, Berkeley Lake among the towns of Gwinnett named Tree City USA

Each year, the Arbor Day Foundation honors cities across the country for their commitment to effectively manage urban forests by naming them Tree City USA.

Berkeley Lake was again honored with the title for the 21st year. This year, the city is planting native pink azaleas, Rhododendron canescens, along Ridge Road. Their flowers provide nectar to the tiger swallowtail butterfly that lived in the leaves on the ground under the trees during the winter.

Sugar Hill also announced its recognition in 2020 as Tree City USA for having a tree commission or department, a tree ordinance, an annual forest budget of at least $ 2 per capita as well as a celebration and proclamation of Arbor Day.

"The trees planted and maintained by the town of Sugar Hill guarantee a better quality of life for future generations," said Dan Lambe, President of the Arbor Day Foundation.

Duluth (30), Grayson, Lilburn, Loganville, Mountain Park, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, Snellville and Suwanee are other cities in Gwinnett listed as Tree City USA 2019.

Tree City USA 2020 lists will be available in June. Information: www.arborday.org.
