Boris Johnson's fiancé, Carrie Symonds, shows a 35,000-piece Diana-inspired engagement ring

Boris Johnson's pregnant fiancee Carrie Symonds showed off her five-digit ring – and many fans believe she was inspired by the late Diana, the Princess of Wales.

Yesterday marked Carrie's first appearance at a major public event since the announcement of her pregnancy.

The love of the PM, 31, caught the attention of spectators with his glittering stone during his presence with the 55-year-old politician for the Commonwealth Day Service 2020 on Monday.

Carrie's engagement ring has an emerald at the heart of the design, surrounded by a dazzling array of diamonds.

And experts estimate that it cost the Prime Minister 35,000, more than the annual salary of a hard-working NHS nurse.

"Carrie's ring appears to be a three-carat square emerald, surrounded by a motif adorned with approximately two carats of diamonds," said Andrew Brown, CEO of WP Diamonds, at Mirror Online.

"Assuming the emerald has little or no treatment, the ring would likely sell for around 25,000 to 35,000."

The superb ring has a striking resemblance to the ring of Princess Diana, which had a blue sapphire as its centerpiece and is now on the left hand of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.

It's the same ring that sparked a trend for alternative gemstones as the main gem nestled among diamonds.

Prince William started the trend by asking Kate the question with his mother's ring in 2010.

Carrie highlighted her blooming baby bump in an Amelia sky-blue belted coat that sold for 475 before being reduced to 285.

The pregnant star opted for designer Isabelle Fox.

His appearance was complemented by the Prime Minister, who wore a blue suit and a tie.

Boris and Carrie caused a sensation in late February.

They have made Downing Street their favorite place since Boris was appointed Prime Minister in July of last year.

Their love story made history because Carrie was the other half of the single prime minister.

A spokesperson said: "The Prime Minister and Miss Symonds are very pleased to announce their engagement and that they are expecting a baby early in the summer."
