Did Boris Johnson just destroy OE Kiwi in the UK?

Prime Minister spilled budget lollipops overnight, but served a shit sandwich in Kiwis, writes Lloyd Burr, Newshub correspondent in Europe.

Boris Johnson's government has raised the National Health Service surcharge for the third time in just four years that migrants have to pay to live in Britain.

An additional £ 224 (NZ $ 460) has been added per year for all visa categories except the Youth Mobility Scheme T5 visa, which has increased by £ 170 (NZ $ 350).

This means that Kiwis under the age of 30 who plan to move to Britain for two years now have to pay £ 940 (NZ $ 1,930), instead of £ 600 (NZ $ 1,230).

All other New Zealanders with different visas (such as ancestry visas) will have to pay £ 3,120 (NZ $ 6,395) for a 5-year stay, compared to £ 2,000 (NZ $ 4,100).

Only six years ago, the Kiwis had nothing to pay. And even when the health supplement was introduced in 2015, we were exempt. But in 2016, this exemption was removed and the supplement was £ 200 / year. In 2018 it increased to £ 400 / year. Now it's £ 624 / year.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't become a weeping Pom. I am for fair payment for services like the NHS. But this last jump takes the bulk of Mickey.

Not only is he outrageous and uses the Kiwis like a cash cow, but he makes New Zealanders pay twice – a good chunk of their income is paid as tax in the UK (and at a higher rate than ; in NZ for the most part).

And it makes me even wilder: British people who move to New Zealand don't have to pay extra to use the public health system there.

The injustice does not stop there; there are over 250,000 Britons living in New Zealand (over 5% of New Zealand's population), while there are around 60,000 Kiwis living in the UK (less than 0.1% of the British population).

So while a quarter of a million British citizens don't have to pay extra to use the New Zealand system, the 60,000 kiwis in the UK will pay millions of dollars in extra, and another times in taxes.

The increase makes the UK OE even more inaccessible to Kiwis, who already have to pay visa processing fees of NZ $ 1,174, have at least £ 1,890 (NZ $ 3,860) in your bank account, buy a flight (the cheapest one way is around NZ $ 680), and there is money left over for rent, bail, etc.

So Boris, why do you continually punish New Zealanders who want to create a home in your country, contribute to your economy and, most importantly, fill the jobs you desperately need in the areas of health, education , construction, etc.?

It is time for the UK to end its contempt for New Zealanders. The extortion must stop. Kiwis don't leave your country, we contribute to it and add value.
