We have elected Boris Johnson as our head and we can fire him

In terms of locking, the last few months unfortunately cannot be described as my first rodeo. On a beautiful sunny day in July 2014, I was dispatched from the Old Bailey to the high security HMP Belmarsh. The two days that were revealed to me that I spent there turned out to be two months sometimes fascinating but above all boring.

Since my release in November 2014 (from the Suffolk Open Prison, I was finally transferred), I haven’t spent much time looking back, focusing instead on more productive efforts. But the shared experience of Covid lockdown only put me behind the door this time with my family, a fridge full of decent food, and those two wonders of the modern world, Zoom and Netflix.

Just like when I ended up in a prison cell for 22 hours a day, the prospect was crucial. And we did not have to look far for it because so many people have lost their lives or loved ones because of the pandemic. Clich has rightly become our crutch; At least I have my health, the new national mantra; armchair crisis management the new national sport.

As the person who created, managed and survived a crisis, I am with Churchill who believed that our scientists should be at the forefront and not at the top. In other words, it is up to our elected politicians to lead a national crisis, for better or for worse. And we’ve had a bit of both so far. Or, as Eric Morecambe could have said, good ideas but not necessarily in the right order.

But we have put Boris Johnson there to lead and we can dismiss him if, ultimately, he is found missing. Delegating this national crisis entirely to the highly qualified but ultimately competitive, commercial and often equally ego-oriented world of science is what none of us voted for.

The performance of governments in this crisis will be and should be analyzed in detail in the near future. But what is just as important is how they are fueling our way out of this crisis in the months and years to come. I think that will be the basis on which the Prime Minister will ultimately be judged by the British public.

Like so many others, I focused on a future that (in my case, for the second time) I did not see coming. And it was an opportunity to try something new and join the podcast army. In crisis What crisis? (on all good podcast platforms now) I’m talking to those who have experienced their own existential challenges: besieged, ashamed, brave, brave, ruined, resilient, unlucky (and lucky) survivors.

I hope the ideas from these incredibly frank interviews will prove useful to anyone trying to navigate the new normal. My first three guests are Jeremy Bowen, BBC editor for the Middle East, Baroness Martha Lane Fox and presenter and television producer Richard Bacon. All are well equipped to discuss crises that have faced very different and potentially life-threatening situations.

I’ve also asked them to give their crisis remedies the little things that helped them get through the dark days. The responses were instructive and truly stimulating. During my days in prison, Charles Dickens was my remedy of choice. Partly because library visits were so infrequent, I grabbed something big to keep me as long as possible.

It was a good choice because Dickens is the gift of the human crisis. A fervent supporter of the power of the human spirit or resilience, as is now described by the Ted Talk generation. And it’s a common theme that emerges in my podcast conversations. This single grain will allow you to bounce back and spot crisis opportunities. Whether in life or in business, it is only by confronting and understanding your crisis that you can hope to put it behind you. And adopting the future-oriented campaign mind laser you want also helps.

Opportunity in crisis are words that the number ten recovery team should never say, but always in mind. Because without the ambition to build a better Britain and the determination and energy to stay in power long enough to deliver it, they might as well hand over the keys to men and women in white coats.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
