The Royal Mail Issues a Set of Postage Stamps Commemorating the Anniversary of Britain’s First Pride March (Royal Mail)
The Royal Mail issued a set of stamps to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Britain’s first Pride march on 1 July 1972.
The set of eight stamps will commemorate the historic Pride rally organized by the Gay Liberation Front from Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park, inspired by the first Pride event in New York.
The stamps were illustrated by artist Sofie Birkin, the Royal Mail worked with journalist and author Amelia Abraham, and the project was created in consultation with the Royal Mail’s internal LGBT & Friends Network.
The Royal Mail explained that the set of stamps tells the story of Pride over time, from the first slogan “Gay is beautiful” in 1972 to the comprehensive modern flag used by the LGBTQ+ community today.
David Gold, Director of External Affairs and Policy at Royal Mail, said: To raise awareness of discrimination and inequality
“Although there have been major changes in law and societal attitudes, Pride celebrations continue to play a key role in raising awareness of discrimination and celebrating diversity and individualism.”
Britain’s first Pride march was inspired by the American parade held to commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York. The parade in London also included a “kiss-in,” where LGBTQ+ attendees participated in a massive PDA.
The Royal Mail isn’t the only one celebrating the parade’s 50th anniversary. Veterans of the Gay Liberation Front follow the “correct path” of the July 1, 1972 march to protest for those who “can’t stand” the Conservative government.
The parade, joined by UK Black Pride, will be held outside the Pride in London event, and individuals who participated in and helped to “the first Pride protest” said “a lot of people will attend”. Our new friends and volunteers we’ve made over the years”.
“The Gay Liberation Front stands with all those who are forced and institutionally marginalized,” the statement said.
“We are black, we are transgender, we are people of color, we are white and we are disabled. We invite the UK Black Pride and Trans Pride and all those who can’t stand what Cameron, May and Johnson have done to this country to join us.”

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
