Putin’s cousin and Russia’s second-richest man sanctioned in Britain | UK News

Vladimir Putin’s cousin and the second richest man in Russia is the latest Kremlin supporter approved by the British government.

Anna Tsivileva is not only a relative of Putin, but also the president of JSC Kolmar Group, a prominent Russian coal mining company under sanctions.

Her husband, Sergey Tsivilev, is the governor of the coal-rich Kemerovo region, and the couple are said to have “significantly benefited” from their relationship with the Russian leader.

Oligarch Vladimir Potanin is a key supporter of the Moscow regime, taking over shares of Rosbank and Tinkoff Bank during the post-Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The foreign ministry says the government is working with its international allies to introduce new measures to prevent Russia from accessing British trust services.

“As long as President Putin continues his abhorrent attacks on Ukraine, we will undermine Russia’s war machine through sanctions,” the spokesperson said.

“Today’s sanctions show that no one has been taken off the table, including Putin’s inner circle.”

Britain cut its oil imports from Russia significantly shortly after the invasion of Ukraine, according to official figures on Wednesday.

However, according to data from the National Statistical Office, Britain still imported around 140 million pounds of Russian refined oil in April, two months after the war began.

ONS said this was down from around 410 million pounds of refined oil imported from Russia in February. That was when Russia was Britain’s largest supplier.

The UK has since increased its supply from other countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Belgium, making Russia now the sixth largest supplier.

Refined oil includes gasoline, diesel, and heating oil, and prices have skyrocketed since the conflict.

The UK has announced that it will stop importing gasoline and diesel from Russia by the end of the year.

Last month, the EU, which relies on Russia for 26% of its oil supply, agreed to ban most Russian oil imports.

Britain and the United States sanctioned Russian oil in connection with the Ukraine war, but before the ban, neither was very dependent, importing only 14% and 3% respectively.
