UK prepares for 50 mph winds and heavy rain as temperatures drop in Arctic cold

Heavy rains and strong winds are heading towards the UK later this week as Arctic cold continues unseasonably cold weather.

The north wind has plunged temperatures across the UK, with lows expected to drop as low as 6 degrees Celsius in many areas at night, a few degrees below the early fall average.

Meteorological forecasters say Britain also contributed to a cool start to the week in the second half of Hurricane Fiona, which made landfall in Canada last week.

On Friday, commuters face a test journey as heavy rain and strong winds are expected to hit during morning and evening rush hours.

Weather Service’s Becky Mitchell told The Independent that it’s going to be raining for hours everywhere.

Flooding is unpredictable, but there will be a lot of surface water on the road, so you need to be careful when going outside, Msitchell said.

The rain will sweep from the northwest with strong gusts of wind up to 50 mph in coastal areas.

Mitchell will have strong winds with heavy rains across the country. This month will be the windiest day we’ve seen so far, Mitchell said.

Due to the path of the weather front, the northern and western regions are most affected around the morning rush hour, with southern and eastern commuters suffering the most on their way home.

Another rain shower is expected across the country on Saturday, but winds are expected to be short and not strong.

On Sunday, temperatures should rise back to their seasonal averages and be generally dry.
