E-Gate technology issues throw Heathrow and five other UK airports into chaos | air transport

Passengers are experiencing delays at several UK airports due to a nationwide technology outage affecting UK Border Force e-gates.

Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol airports all confirmed problems with passengers crossing their borders on Tuesday evening.

Videos posted on social media showed long lines of passengers waiting at passport control. Manchester Airport said its dedicated team and customer service staff were supporting passengers while the UK Border Force resolved the issue.

Passengers are already facing disruption to their journeys to and from the airport due to the strike, which will affect train services across the UK from this week until Saturday.

Gatwick previously said train services to and from Sussex airport would be restricted or canceled and advised people to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time.

One affected person wrote to X: Long queues at Heathrow Airport holding passengers on arrival due to system error. It's already been an hour since I got here, and the line is getting longer. No one has been told what the timeline is for fixing this issue.

Another person posted a video of the confusion, writing: The e-gates are not working. This is the current queue at Gatwick Airport, with lots of children and no water.

One X user from Heathrow wrote: I've been standing here for over an hour! My taxi has been canceled and at this rate it will be too late to catch the train. Another wrote: My daughter has been waiting in line for over 2 hours after a 12 hour flight.
