Mercedes Mone says there is 'no competition' between AEW and WWE

It’s not for nothing that Mercedes Moné is called “the CEO”.

Moné claimed her rights to AEW. She's not worried about what's happening in other professional wrestling organizations ahead of her All Elite Wrestling in-ring debut at Double or Nothing on Sunday, May 26.

“I feel like there should be no competition between companies,” Moné, who spent a decade in WWE under the name Sasha Banks, exclusively said. “All it takes is a competition between the wrestlers, to see who wants to be the main event of the show, to win the most money. I'm competing with everyone here at AEW to let them know that I'm the face of the company. I am not in competition with any other company.

Regardless, Moné argued that the perceived conflict between AEW and WWE is primarily the work of passionate keyboard warriors.

“A lot of things just come from the Internet,” she said. “People are so into their phones. They go online and brag and complain, but they don't actually live in the real world. When they go out into the real world and they go to wrestling shows and enjoy things with wrestling fans, they know it's all so much fun.

Moné added: “People just like to drag things out and be mean on the internet just for the sake of being mean on the internet. When they come to these shows, it’s a whole different feeling.

In AEW, Moné said she was spearheading “a global evolution of women”, which started with abandoning her old persona.

“I’m experiencing the best times of my life and my career,” she exclaimed. “There is this new freedom. I discover a whole new side of myself. I'm not Sasha Banks anymore.

On Sunday, her new character will face Willow Nightingale in a match for the AEW TBS Championship. Double or Nothing also marks the promotion's 5th anniversary.
