FWPD: Man dies after crash at intersection of US 24, Amber Road

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — A man died Friday morning following a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 24 and Amber Road, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD).

According to FWPD, officers learned through witness reports that the driver was heading west on US 24 around 8:50 a.m. and struck construction barrels along the road before continuing west, from leave the roadway, turn around several times and crash into a pole.

A photo of the scene provided to WANE 15 showed an overturned vehicle and large rocks scattered across the road.

Officers were initially unable to get the man out of the vehicle until utility crews cut power to the area and made it safe to approach the vehicle.

The accident also downed power lines in the area, according to FWPD.

Police are still investigating what caused the man to lose control of his vehicle.

The intersection was closed for several hours, but reopened Friday afternoon.
