Reform UK membership has increased by 50% in the week since Farage announced his bid for parliament.

Figures available exclusively on ITV News show Reform UK's membership has increased by 50% in the week since Nigel Farage decided to run as a parliamentary candidate.

In the past seven days, nearly 14,000 people have joined Reform, taking its membership to over 45,000.

On Monday 3 June alone, over 4,000 people joined the party. That was the day that Mr. Farage announced his decision to become party leader and run in the general election.

The reforms also led to a rise in membership in the days following Rishi Sunak's decision to skip the second half of the D-Day commemorations in Normandy.

Each new member pays $25 to join Reform UK, which has attracted a further 350,000 in the past week.

Party officials said other fundraising activities and significant one-time donations brought actual fundraising totals for the period to more than $1 million.

Unlike most political parties, Reform UK is set up as a limited company. Party members have no say in policy or leadership decisions.

One of the reasons Mr Sunak is believed to have called a snap election was to catch the Reform Party off guard.

And while political parties are growing in membership, questions about some of their candidates are also growing.

On Friday, the Reform Party withdrew its support for both candidates after their previous racist comments came to light.

The side announced that it plans to investigate other allegations as well.

Nigel Farage has told ITV News' Harry Horton he 'don't know' why Robert Lomas isn't campaigning with him. However, he is said to have investigated the asylum seekers' DNA, saying there was 'lying DNA' and 'black British people'. ‘I was holding the racing card’

One of the Reform Party candidates being investigated is Robert Lomas, who stands in Barnsley North, one of the party's key target seats.

He reportedly said asylum seekers have DNA that causes them to lie in comments posted online.

He also wrote that black people in Britain were holding the race card and needed to stop behaving like savages, according to The Times.

While campaigning in Barnsley on Tuesday, Mr Farage said he had no idea why Mr Lomas did not turn up with him.

Mr Farage said he had learned of Mr Rome's comments that morning but was a little surprised by their contents and promised to look into them.

This election was forced upon us with little time for research or any organizing. “Of course, it’s natural to find people saying things they shouldn’t say,” he added.
