Summer in the UK has finally decided to set in motion a pollen bomb exploding in almost every part of the country.

In the first heatwave of the year, temperatures will soar to 29℃ in London and parts of the southeast, and up to 27℃ in most parts of the UK.

So pack your sunglasses, flip flops, and beach gear. Because the day we never thought would come is almost here.

But life is about balance. This mild weather will be combined with a pollen bomb, with plants and fungi releasing millions of pollen simultaneously.

Where will the pollen bomb land?

Almost one in two people in the UK suffer from hay fever. Runny noses and itchy eyes are expected to occur over the next five days as pollen levels rise across all regions except northern Scotland.

According to Met Office pollen forecasts, the only areas of England where pollen concentrations are not currently very high are the Highlands, Eilean Siar, Orkney and Shetland.

Grass pollen increases during warm, dry weather. The same goes for nettles, poison and plantains, the National Weather Service said.

Spores: Some Alternaria and moderate Cladosporium when warm; Leptosphaeria after rain.

Pollen levels will remain the same until Wednesday, when pollen allergies will finally ease slightly. Well, little by little means that all six regions will have medium or high levels rather than very high levels.

The Korea Meteorological Administration issued a severe pollen forecast for several days. (Photo = Korea Meteorological Administration)

Experts told Metro.co.uk earlier this year that pollen season is now at its worst as it starts around March and lasts until September.

As temperatures rise, pollen levels tend to rise, which is why heat waves cause pollen bombs to explode.

When does the heat wave start?

The Met Office predicts hot and humid weather from Sunday to throw off the start of the weekend.

But don't despair if you're in other parts of the UK – Cornwall, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland – it will still be a balmy 22-24C.

Met Office forecasters said parts of central and southern England will reach potential heat wave levels with persistent sun by Wednesday, providing a welcome break from the grim misery of 2024.

After a brief, less settled break today and tomorrow, good conditions will return through Sunday and early next week, said National Weather Service deputy meteorologist Dan Rudman.

Temperatures will rise across most of the UK, with many areas reaching the mid-20Cs.

In some central and southern regions, temperatures are likely to approach the values needed for heat wave conditions.

Heatwave conditions should remain in place for three consecutive days, with parts of England likely to reach heatwave thresholds from early to mid-next week.

But whether everyone experiences the heat wave threshold or not, the majority of the UK will experience the highest temperatures so far this year.

With a potential heatwave approaching, the RNLI has issued a warning to people planning to head to the beach to help them stay safe when cooling off in the water.

Samantha Hughes, RNLI's national water safety partner, said: The warmer weather expected means we could see more visitors on our coasts and we always want people to be able to enjoy them safely.

Entering the water in hot weather can increase the risk of cold water shock due to rapid changes in skin temperature. To reduce the risk of being shocked by cold water, enter the water gradually and avoid jumping or diving right in.

If you're planning on heading to the beach, I highly recommend visiting one where there are lifeguards and swimming between the red and yellow flags. This is the safest area and is most closely monitored by lifeguards.

If you get into trouble in the water, float and survive. Place your ears in the water, tilt your head back, relax, and control your breathing. Use your hands to stay afloat and call for help or swim to safety if possible.

If you have an emergency on the coast, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard, or if you are near inland waters, call for the fire service.

The hot weather will continue for a while, but storms with heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday night.

The Met Office added: “Temperatures may peak on Wednesday, but we may see high pressure break off Tuesday night into Wednesday as conditions become more unsettled.”

This breakdown may bring heavy rain or thunderstorms in some places, with the heaviest rain expected in the west or southwest.
