Government loses 1.4 billion on PPE contract with Full Support Healthcare

Government loses 1.4 billion on PPE contract with Full Support Healthcare

Last summer the Environment Agency took enforcement action to clear a stockpile of thousands of waste plastic medical aprons supplied by Full Support Healthcare.

Documents obtained by the BBC in April showed the waste dump at the farm near Calmore, Hampshire, had around 1,550 pallets and was deemed a fire risk.

The government sold pallets to third-party private companies in the process of auctioning off excess PPE.

Full Support takes no responsibility for stockpiles.

The company's lawyers said the Stout family had only been informed by the BBC about unused stock.

They said it was the government's problem who had not contacted them about this at any stage.

Four years on from the first national lockdown in England and Wales, DHSC continues to store and dispose of billions of excess PPE items at a cost of millions of pounds every week.

At a press conference on Tuesday morning, Health Minister Victoria Atkins said the 1.4 billion figure was “unacceptable”, but the DHSC did not specify a different figure.

Ms Atkins said from a wider perspective: “The whole country wanted to get the PPE they needed for frontline workers in both health and social care, and we have been able to procure billions of pieces of PPE equipment.”

“It was absolutely the right thing to do at the time,” he added.

A DHSC spokesperson said: We are not aware of the $1.4 billion quoted. Our position on PPE stocks is set out in the Department's annual accounts, which are audited by the National Audit Office.

PPE was secured at the height of the pandemic, competing in an overheated global market where demand far outstripped supply.

Nearly half of the remaining inventory was sold, recycled or donated by the department. Our reduced storage and disposal strategy ensures that unused items are converted from waste to energy, recouping additional costs for the department.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
