Black journalist Femi Oluole walks out of Reform UK rally over security concerns

A black journalist was kicked out of a Reform UK rally by security, who said they had no idea why he was not allowed to attend the event.

Femi Oluwole, 34, was turned away from Nigel Farage's biggest campaign rally in Birmingham on Sunday despite showing his press card to security guards.

In the video, a security guard can be heard saying: “Unfortunately, I've been told you can't enter the venue today.”

When Mr. Oluwole was asked why, he said: They just told me I couldn't enter the place. I was told you couldn't come in. Two security guards physically escorted Mr. Oluwole from the building.

Mr Oluol is a freelance journalist and regular columnist for The Independent. He is also a prominent anti-Brexit campaigner who co-founded the EU advocacy group Our Future Our Choice.

He told The Independent he was upset by the expulsion, saying it showed that while Farage's party claims to defend freedom of speech, it had no tolerance for dissent.

Mr. Oluole said: They are completely intolerant of opposing views. Although they claim to value press freedom, they have banned reporters from major political events during the election.

As a black person, it was disturbing to see Catherine Blycloak get kicked out of a rally for a party that claimed black people were inherently violent. I was in full flight or fight mode.

In 2019, now-deleted posts emerged from Ms. Blychlock's personal blog, in which she claimed that criminality and fatherlessness among black men was due to their high testosterone levels. She subsequently resigned from the party.

Reform UK has faced repeated criticism in recent days over the racist views of some of its supporters, including a video of an activist describing Rishi Sunak as a disgusting piece of shit. The Prime Minister responded by saying he was “hurt and angry” by the comments.

It is unclear why Mr. Oluwole was banned from attending the reform event. He asked the parties for comment.

Mr Farage told the crowd at the Reform UK rally, where tickets cost $5 each, that Britain was in social and cultural decline.

He said people were becoming poorer, people were afraid to go out at night, people were afraid to even go to their local pub, and young people in the country were carrying knives wholesale. So I have no doubt that we are in social decline. .

“A country that has forgotten where we came from, a country that doesn’t cherish our culture and the heritage we want to pass on to our children – so I felt I couldn’t stand by and let all this happen,” he said.
