US military bases across Europe have been placed on heightened alert due to a potential terrorist attack, Fox News Digital has confirmed.

“There is credible information indicating an attack on US bases within the next week,” a US defense official told Lucas Tomlinson on Fox News.

The official, who declined to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media, did not elaborate on the nature of the threat but confirmed that it was not related to the French elections.

US bases have raised the alert level to “Force Protection Charlie”, meaning the Pentagon has received credible intelligence that some form of terrorist attack is being prepared.

The new alert applies to all U.S. military installations and personnel in Europe, including installations in Germany, Italy, Romania and Bulgaria, according to a report from Stars and Stripes.
