Biden Administration Announces Additional Security Assistance to Ukraine > U.S. Department of Defense > Statement

Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced additional security assistance to address Ukraine’s critical security and defense needs. This includes authorizing a Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) worth up to $150 million to provide Ukraine with key capabilities, including: additional air defense interceptors, artillery and other fire, and anti-tank weapons.

In addition, the Department of Defense announced a major batch of air defense interceptors using approximately $2.2 billion in Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) funds. This funding will be used to purchase interceptors for the PATRIOT and NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine. As previously announced, the Biden administration plans to accelerate the delivery of these munitions by reorganizing upcoming foreign military hardware deliveries to Ukraine. As a result, Ukraine will be equipped with the interceptors it urgently needs to protect its population and critical infrastructure from Russian air attacks.

The PDA package is the sixtieth tranche of equipment from the Biden administration to be delivered to Ukraine from DoD stockpiles since August 2021.

PDA package features include:

Missiles for HAWK air defense systems; ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS); 155 mm and 105 mm artillery shells; 81 mm mortar shells; tube-launched, optically tracked and wire-guided (TOW) missiles; Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems; ammunition and grenades for small arms; demolition equipment and munitions; tactical vehicles for towing and transporting equipment; tactical air navigation systems and aircraft support equipment; and spare parts, maintenance and other field and auxiliary equipment.

The United States will continue to work with more than 50 allies and partners to ensure that Ukraine's brave defenders receive the critical capabilities needed to combat Russian aggression.
