Hurricane Beryl, a dangerously strong storm, is leaving a trail of devastating damage across several Caribbean islands as forecast maps show the storm approaching Texas and Louisiana early next week.

Beryl is the earliest storm of this intensity to form in the Atlantic Ocean, with sustained winds of 145 mph (233 km/h). Beryl is also the earliest major Atlantic hurricane in 58 years, breaking a record set by Hurricane Dennis in 2005, the same year Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast.
