Kendrick Lamar releases music video for “Not Like Us”

After touring his hometown of Compton and performing the song six times in a row at his “The Pop Out” concert last month, Kendrick Lamar has released the long-awaited music video for “Not Like Us,” the biggest hit to come out of his feud with Drake.

The clip, directed by Dave Free and Lamar, pays homage to the West Coast with a few digs at Drake and his OVO crew. The video begins with Tommy the Clown letting Lamar into a metal room before the rapper does push-ups on cinder blocks — a nod to Drake's track “Push Ups,” after Drake referenced a photo of Lamar doing the exercise as part of his launch.

Soon, Lamar hits an owl-shaped piñata, a reference to Drake's OVO owl, with a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen stating, “No OVHoes were harmed in the making of this video.” Lamar then hits the road in a car with the song's producer, Mustard, sitting as a passenger.

Fans have already noticed that Lamar's fiancée Whitney Alford and their two children are seen dancing in a living room in the video. Alford was the subject of one of Drake's songs, “Family Matters,” in which the Toronto rapper claimed that the video's co-director and longtime Lamar associate Dave Free fathered one of Lamar's children with Alford.

Needless to say, the “Not Like Us” video is something of a victory lap for Lamar, who arguably emerged victorious from the feud that erupted earlier this year with Drake. Of all the songs that came out of that exchange between the two, “Not Like Us” became the biggest hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming a contender for Song of the Summer.

Lamar recently performed the song six times during his “The Pop Out” concert in his hometown of Los Angeles, which took place on June 19. For the event, he represented his hometown, bringing out a lineup of musicians that included Dr. Dre, YG, Tyler the Creator, Schoolboy Q and more.
